Board Trip to Haiti - 2019
TLH traveled to Haiti with some of our board members who visited the country for the first time. They got to visit several communities and see what the children and the Haitians people deal with everyday.
The Lighthouse - COVID-19 Relief Event
During COVID-19, we did a day training and provided 300 individuals and 100 families access to materials and resources to support during covid-19. Give away water buckets, masks and hand sanitizers. A nurse was there to demonstrate handwashing and ways to stay safe and to protect others from the virus. Information on Coronavirus disease, symptoms, variants, and more.
Golf Fundraiser Event - August 2021
Our first fundraising golf event, organized by our board members to raise funds for The Lighthouse Educational funds.
City Soleil School Project- Sept 2021- June 2022
The Lighthouse provides a food program which includes a light breakfast and full lunch for often homeless or malnourished children attending school in City Soleil. We also provided funding for six (6) teachers to teach basic education, to children who suffered a school closing without any replacement school or teachers. The funding for teachers was sponsored by an anonymous donor who took an interest in the children upon hearing of their school closing and need for teachers.
Literacy Summer Camp - July 2021
The Lighthouse has sponsored a two-week summer camp for 150 children. The summer camp is designed to provide joy and inspiration in a creative environment where children participate in robust discussions about their life experiences, hopes, and participate in educational and recreational activities. Each year during the summer camp, a premium is placed on developing camp participants’ reading and writing skills. Each child receives a backpack or a book at the completion of the summer camp, at no cost to children or parents.
